MOLINE, Ill. – Steve Michalek made 37 saves on the way to his second shutout and four different Quad City Mallards scored as the host Mallards (20-19-5) blanked the Rapid City Rush (17-22-3) 4-0 Wednesday night.
The victory halted the Mallards’ six-game winless streak while the defeat extended Rapid City’s regulation losing streak to eight games.
Matt Carey opened the scoring with a one timer from the right wing circle at 3:56 of the first period. Miles Koules doubled the advantage from the doorstep at 13:59 of the first.
Raphael Bussieres’ one timer from the slot gave the Mallards a 3-0 lead at 3:33 of the second period. Just 32 seconds later the Rush’s Mikhail Stefanovich missed the net on a penalty shot. Michalek was at his busiest while stopping 14 Rapid City shots in the second.
The Mallards were up 5-on-3 when Mike Monfredo- who also had an assist- pounced on a rebound to score the final goal of the night at 8:04 of the third period.
