INDIANAPOLIS – Cody Sharib assisted on all three Indy Fuel goals as they defeated the Quad City Mallards for the second straight night, this time by a 3-1 count at Indiana Farmers Coliseum.
Again the Fuel would notch the first goal of the contest as Mike Colantone netted his fourth of the season at 10:33. Rhett Bly funneled a pass towards Sharib, who tipped it on to Colantone at the side of the Mallards net. He beat Brody Hoffman (23 saves) on the glove side to make it 1-0.
In the third, Matt White scored when the puck deflected of a Quad City skate to him in front of the goalmouth at 4:10. The goal would turn out to be the game-winner.
After the Mallards crept within a goal, Bly would sew the game up with an empty-net goal at 19:27 from Sharib and Cody Franson.
Shane Owen made 26 saves to earn the win and was key in the final 40 minutes when he stopped 23-of-24 Mallards attempts.
Sharib’s three assists sets a personal best for the rookie in a single game for both assists and points. He ranks second on the team in rookie scoring behind Ben Marshall and is now tied for fourth in scoring overall on the Fuel.
With the win, Indy now moves into sole possession of second place in the Midwest division, one point ahead of Quad City and the Cincinnati Cyclones.
The Fuel will now host a Sunday matinee visit from the Fort Wayne Komets at 3:05 pm. The Morellis Cleaners Pre-game Show starts 15 minutes before every puck drop on CBS Sports 1430.
