EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Kevin Henderson broke a 1-1 tie with two minutes and fifty-one seconds left in the third period and Brody Hoffman made 38 saves as the Quad City Mallards (19-15-3) defeated the host Evansville IceMen (13-19-4) 2-1 Saturday night.
Henderson pounced on a loose puck to score the late game winner from the doorstep and give the Mallards their third consecutive victory.
The 1-1 deadlock lasted deep into the third period after Evansville’s Danny Hobbs redirected a power play goal home to tie the score at at 6:42 of the second period.
Ryan Tesink had opened the scooring by tipping in a Mallard man advantage goal at 13:36 of the first period.
The Mallards next play at home tomorrow at 4:05 p.m. against the Kalamazoo Wings. Pink will be the color of the day when the Mallards join the effort to raise breast cancer awareness tomorrow. Fans wearing pink clothing of any sort can purchase discounted tickets to tomorrow’s game at the iWireless Center box office.
